Upcycling an old Costume into a Hoop Skirt

What’s better than upcycling something to breath new life into it? We needed a hoop skirt for under my daughter’s dress for a renaissance festival but of course we couldn’t find any! So we went through her closet and found a southern Bell costume she wore a few years ago and we made due!

I cut the top off.

Left enough fabric to make a casing for the elastic. I measured her waist and subtracted 3″ for the elastic. The hoop was fairly heavy so I took more length out than I normally would.

The finished product!

Turned out perfect!
I hope this will inspire you to get thrifty and innovative.
